In March 2019, I will be releasing my very first book.  Ahhhh – I am still in shock that this is happening!  I’ve just finalized the book cover and sent my book off to the publisher.  I cannot wait to celebrate this milestone with family and friends.

But, I want to take some time today to tell you about the journey it’s taken me to get here.  You see, this book has taken me over 10 years to write.  I started writing with a vigor over a decade ago when I knew that I had a story to tell.  However, as I began to write and as my dirt came to the surface, it became difficult to continue.  I knew that I had to be completely transparent and vulnerable.  I knew that I had to detail my journey through brokenness.  And, if I can be honest with you, I trudged through a broken state for many years.

Brokenness is a state of being – one in which you malfunction, and if not addressed, can become dangerous.  My daughter broke her thumb last year while I was away on business.  She was dancing around the house and fell onto her hand.  Her thumb began to swell and it was impossible for her to bend it.  For the first few days, we weren’t sure that the thumb was actually broken.  But, upon going to the doctor and getting an x-ray, we confirmed she had a fracture.  The doctor immediately set her thumb in a cast and gave us guidelines for keeping it safe while it healed.  Now, if we had not taken the steps to get her thumb looked at and fixed, her thumb could have continued swelling and she could have lost movement and strength, causing further damage.

Our lives work this way too.  Something in us breaks – whether it’s a direct hit or something that caused a break over time.  And while that thing is broken, our state becomes dangerous the more we continue to live in it.  Our brokenness causes us to live outside of the life we are meant to live.  Sure, you may be trudging along, but are you living a life of purpose?  Are you living a life of joy?  Are you fully functional?

It took me most of my adult life to understand the truths of getting up out of brokenness.  I encourage you today to GET UP – get healed, take care of yourself, protect your energy, forgive yourself, and hit the reset button.  You can do it – I believe in you!
